Edwardian cloakroom ART overall experience?
So during the setup to the Edwardian cloakroom exhibition. the location was situated opposite a petrol station alongside park street road in Bristol. The total amount of people who visited the show over the five day period there has been a grand total of 382 people over the Friday to Tuesday period. overall through social media advertising and marketing campaign sending flyers around other Bristol art spaces, this helped spread the word around. out of the show it was mainly the elderly ,students and people who heard of the show many popped there heads in (and only two went into the space to almost actually go to the toilet there assuming it was a toilet not an art space.)
many people disagreed on going to the exhibition for example my grandparents didnt visit because they assumed it was a ladies and gents toilet and didnt like the idea of entering the place unfortunate losses.
even when my parents visited me on Monday they had a good look around and immediately said "what on earth was i doing in here" but for my opinions it was a fantastic opportunity to show of my own work outside of college and onto public spaces
For the courier of my works that i chose to use for the show i had an A3 sized canvas MDF wood which was acrylic primed white and the image was an artist inspiration of Shepard fairly graphic image of Issambard Kingdom Brunel which at first id used color to the poster idea but then seeing as the exhibition only black and white photography was available during that period! so i applied black and white(greyscaled) layer ontop of the color only a few marks come trough the image.
My main piece was a canvas wallpaper which was cut to a perfect fit onto what would be the gentleman's toilet front door. It was successfully pinned up using double sided Velcro tape.
Sizes at six foot high width was accurate to the door size same dimensions .
the piece was me dressed up in Edwardian gentleman's clothing (top hat, walking stick, heavy coat, basic shoes, straight trousers)
color was desaturated to just black and white and grays photography, black inks and grays and white acrylics used.
It sure was nice to be able to look after the exhibition space and to be able to cope with the elements of the cold wind by sitting in for two days out of the total 5. I found it was great to listen to peoples opinions and different outcomes, stories and other questions they asked mostly i listened to the stories. It very cold too but i had four layers on.and caught a cold. It didnt help there was a storm during Monday so lots of the artwork that was pinned up kept falling down, my brunel poster had fallen down from its original placement of the main front door of the gentleman's toilet.
different groups from school of Art history classes and lots of UWE students visited both spaces.
i found it interesting to see when the art history class came in only because it was located right next to another form of art a street tag which was facing the exhibition front door i could hear them having a lecture about the purpose and deep meaning behind the mural. it had something to do with the Bristol green capital event taking place this upcoming year.
